This week’s cover is a wild depiction of Yuga Labs’ announcement that there will be a royalty of 5% on Meebits going forward. The general feeling about this was disturbed disappointment amongst the NFT community and we captured that.

Issue #98 dropped on Sunday 31st July amidst widespread discontent in the NFT community.
Yuga Labs had just announced that they would be applying 5% royalties to Meebits and the news went down about as well as you might expect. The idea for this cover came from a simple one-liner delivered by Red: ‘I was thinking a cow like Meebits and 2 apes sitting and milking her frantically.’ This seemed to sum up the situation perfectly so we got to work.
Dudly created the sketch, which shows a stricken Meebit being milked by two greedy monkeys. The sickly Meebit is completely helpless, strapped down to a surgical bed in a torture basement somewhere underneath the Yacht Club. One monkey drinks the milk, the other showers themselves in it. 
This turned out to be one of our more disturbing covers, complemented by flashing, surgical lights and jittery motion effects. Look carefully and you’ll even see an audience of monkeys in the foreground, watching the milking, and one scuttling across the scene.

It’s not for the faint-hearted, but this horror cover perfectly reflected the anti-Yuga sentiment. The Meebit story of course led Gazette, along with news on the upcoming Ethereum Merge (remember that?) and Tesla’s spectacular Bitcoin dump. We also included a guide on how to make money playing NFT games.
ArtDrop for this issue was ‘Endless Place’ by João Salazar. A dense and heavily populated piece, it immerses the viewer in an endlessly folding, fabulistic world that bends the senses.
