Elon Musk, Chief Meme Officer
Week 14 2022 Review
Issue #82 dropped on Sunday 10th April - a week that will be remembered for one massive news event.
This cover was a no-brainer. Elon’s decision to buy Twitter dominated the news, our social media feeds: it was everywhere we looked! We needed a design that would capture the “essence” of Elon but with so many different visions we let the ideas ruminate for a while before settling on memes. Everybody knows that Elon loves a good meme, so casting him as the Chief Meme Officer of Twitter seemed fitting.
The classic Uncle Sam “I Want You” army recruitment poster gave us a perfect template. Elon doesn’t want you to enlist - he wants you to post your best memes! This cover is unique because it uses an aquarelle technique. It took some time to perfect, but Dudley and Amal managed to nail the watercolour style on Elon and his spacesuit.
Look closely and you’ll notice some other little details. Elon’s companies and interests are represented in the form of a Doge symbol, a PayPal harness, Tesla shoulder guard and, of course, a Twitter pendant.
Elon led Gazette, too, as we broke down what his acquisition might mean for Twitter and its users. We also explored how the UK government was getting into crypto via the regulation of stablecoins and the stratospheric rise of Azuki.
This issue’s ArtDrop from Arief Putra oozed happiness and joy. ‘Butterfly Chase’ shows two friends dashing through a yellow meadow, chasing butterflies beneath a cotton cloud sky.
