Cover Story

The Redlion Gazette is the first NFT weekly publication. Each week, we document all the NFT news and global historic events, which we then curate into interesting and educative articles and content.

The covers are all depictions of the news of that week filtered through the lens of many styles of art.

What is ArtDrop?

The ArtDrops are exclusive NFT art commissions that are available for free to ONLY the Redlion Gazette tokens owners of that week. The aim is to highlight good artistic work and ultimately to aspire artists to want to be featured on the ArtDrop.

Week 20 2022 Review

Issue #88 was released on Sunday 22nd May.

Another artistically and conceptually unique cover, this design was themed around the Milady controversy that scandalised the NFT space. We settled on the basic idea early: a doll that looks beautiful on the outside but has a dark, dark interior.

We developed the idea by adding the Seven Deadly Sins, giving the design a truly diabolical look. Dudley suggested styling the cover as a drawing, an aesthetic that ramped the horror up another few notches. Inspired by the work of Berkeley Bonaparte and Robert Wiliams, Amal worked his magic, starting (ironically) with Sloth.

This devilish cover draws inspiration from sources as varied as Dante’s 'Purgatorio,' William Blake’s vision of Hell, the Pharaohs of Egypt and 'A Clockwork Orange.' The result is a ghoulish creation that really captures the slow rot of good into evil. It’s uniquely twisted, and the Seven Deadly Sins stand out for their macabre originality - gluttony is represented as a mermaid reaching for a giant burger!

The controversy around Milady (the collection was accused of using Nazi iconography) was our main feature story, followed by an article about TxSteet and how the collection strives for true decentralisation. A Singapore court’s landmark decision to block a BAYC sale and an interview with the legendary Artnome rounded off Gazette for the week.

The ArtDrop for #88 was ‘His Holiness.’ It shows a seeker of knowledge in a spiritual setting, searching for enlightenment as he journeys through the world.
