Cover Story

Beanie's Backbreakers

This week’s cover depicts the unexpected entry of Beanie Maxi on the Out of Pocket spaces run by Alex and Thread Guy. Beanie who has remained off the radar for the most part of ‘22 made an announced arrival on the spaces leaving many surprised.

We grabbed onto this theatrical event and decided to cook out a cover story for it. First came in the idea of using the WWF pixel art arcade game style, to show the influencers fighting each other and suddenly Beanie arrives out of the blue to be first kicked out, to only return and momentarily defeat Alex and Thread Guy and flee. The seemed a fitting concept to portray the events, but the real question was how difficult would it be to bring this to life.

For those who are not aware of who these individuals are, Thread Guy and Alex are influencers who have risen through the community ranks in the past year whereas Beanie who once held such a high position in influencing the market was driven out after being involved with various rugs and promoting them.

We first, mapped out the stances and then the environmental elements we required. Next, Dudly took his iron-man serum and set out to create the different stances for the 3 characters. They evolved from skeletons to fully functional pixel characters. In meantime, I cooked up the surrounding elements and small animations that can be used in the fight.

After all of these animated elements were crafted and on the table, Dudly set out to bring them to life. The most difficult part was getting the characters in sync with each other. This which would take at least another day of work was created in less than 10 hrs, of non-stop sweat. For a brief period of time we even wondered whether we should publish it on Monday, but cometh the hour, cometh the man, Dudly nailed the cover on time.

In, the end after the final touches the cover was so fkn good we have inquiries about whether it can be made into a PFP game. Our developer Qruz is assigned to finish the development of the game within the next 3 hrs, so we are good, jk :’P

Overall, we are so proud to bring you these covers working with the deadly deadlines that we have to conform to. All we ask is that you enjoy, appreciate, and share these works so the world knows what Redlion is building for this vastly unexplored territory in Web 3.
